PROFESSIONAL & CAREER-ORIENTED

Dr. Joanna Min Jee Murray

Pronouns: She/Her

Vibe: Warm, empathic, realistic, balanced

Expertise: Practical, behavioral interventions and strategies based in psychological training

  • Dr. Joanna Min Jee Murray is an experienced executive functioning adviser who specializes in supporting clients with focus, understanding internal motivation, and career development and transitions. She received her M. Phil and PhD in Counseling Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. Previously, she obtained a MA in Mental Health Counseling from Marist College and BFA from the School of Visual Arts.

Joanna has worked in mental health for over a decade, with a particular focus in career development. As a career development specialist, she understands how personality, background, interests, and individual strengths and weaknesses inform abilities and career preferences. In addition, she helps clients navigate the stress, anxiety, and fear of the unknown as they work through the job search and application process, or figure out how to enhance their current job performance.

Joanna has also worked as an organizational tutor and uses her psychological training to tailor the fundamental skills and principles of executive functioning to each individual (i.e., time-management, goal-setting, emotional regulation, etc.) As a clinician, Joanna understands that the barriers and difficulties with executive functioning often are not as simplistic as a diagnosis of ADHD or depression. Rather, difficulties with focus and achievement can hinge on deep rooted patterns of low self-esteem and self worth, internal/ external criticism, and interpersonal and family dynamics.

Overall, Joanna strongly emphasizes a holistic, balanced, and culturally informed approach to her work. She advises clients with positivity, warmth, and excitement about each individual's accomplishments and potential, knowing that with expert guidance, support, and the right tools-- life can change and each client can achieve their greatest aspirations.

DIGNITY, MANAGEMENT, AND LEADERSHIP

Dr. Sophia Hoffman

Vibe: Structured, warm, collaborative, psychologically minded

Expertise: Creating lasting changes that support career development and life goals

  • Sophia, a New York State Licensed Psychologist and professor, is an experienced STEEL advisor coach who brings ten years of executive functioning coaching to her work with clients. She approaches work with her clients from a highly individualized mentality, informed by clinical experience. She prioritizes collaborative, flexible and insights-driven goal setting. Clients can expect straightforward problem-solving and skills-building that also reflect an understanding of individual barriers to change and development. Sophia believes that the ecology of a person’s home and work environment directly affects these barriers and works to ensure that, in addition to specific problem-solving, her clients walk away with sustainable models for change over time.

Additionally, Sophia believes that in this work, interpersonal rapport is essential to change in the coaching model. Clients can expect a combination of levity and incisiveness in sessions.

Sophia has worked as an executive functioning coach for children and adolescents under the banner of STEEL’s sister company, Organizational Tutors for 10 years. She is currently a Lead Tutor on that team. Sophia is also the Assistant Program Director and the Director of Clinical Training at the combined School-Clinical Child PsyD Program at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University. Sophia is in private therapeutic practice with children, adolescents, and their families at Lifespan Therapists of Brooklyn.

Sophia completed her doctoral training in School Psychology with a clinical focus at Fordham University. She also received an MA in psychology from the New School. She lives in Brooklyn with her partner. She loves dogs, travel and attempting to make pottery in her free time.
